Overview:
The (MSW) Social Work Supervisor provides operating support to the McLaughlin East Harlem Residence Program Director, and will ensure effective and efficient clinical services to the residents of this innovative 51-bed residential program for young adults who are preparing to transition into independent living. The Social Work Supervisor will ensure the integration of social services into the total program. Social Service delivery is to be consistent with the philosophy of Good Shepherd Services, the function and task of the programs and in compliance with City and State mandates.
Reports to: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, McLaughlin East Harlem Residence
Location: 55 East 110th Street, New York, New York 10029
Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Exempt
Social Work Supervisors Responsibilites include but not limited too:
- Assist Program Director with overall administration and supervision of the McLaughlin East Harlem Residence program and assume overall leadership in the absence of the Program Director.
- Complete assigned funding reports, gathering statistical, narrative, program activity and outcomes information.
- Bi-weekly individual supervision of case managers and part time therapist.
- Monthly group supervision of case managers, or more frequently where indicated, and on call availability.
- Transmit to all clinical staff agency directives and contractual mandates. Insure that such directives and regulations are being met.
- Oversee and monitor the development and implementation of the residents individualized service plans and goals, maintenance of case records, and appropriate statistics.
- Convene, chair, and attend meetings as appropriate, in particular weekly Case Reviews and monthly Service Plan Reviews.
- In collaboration with Program Director, Case Managers, and Property Manager, ensure effective intake process and maintenance of census. Collaborate closely with them around intake issues and decisions.
- Meet regularly with Program Director to ensure overall effectiveness, integration, and integrity of the program. Participate with Program Director in periodic assessment of social service and overall program for purposes of program planning and development.
- Participate in hiring, training, and firing of all program staff.
- Assess and identify in service training needs of program staff and where appropriate, serve as a resource person in providing training.
- Attend appropriate central administration meetings.
- Serve as liaison to all public agencies, courts, and other appropriate community agencies.
- Participate in public relations, community education, and client advocacy.
- Ensure program staff has appropriate external supports and supplies necessary to effectively execute tasks.
- Responsible for ensuring documentation in the ETO (Efforts to Outcomes) database, other city databases, as well as in the case records meet the expectations of government funding sources.
- Participate with Program Evaluation and Planning Department (PEP) in fulfillment of the program evaluation processes, including documentation/collection, development and monitoring of data in ETO and other relevant databases.
- Participates in meetings with funding contract manager and auditors when site visits are conducted and provides information and/or feedback for follow up if a corrective action plan is necessary.
- Oversee the diverse case management needs of approximately 8 residents.
- Work with residents to develop and implement individualized service plans and goals based upon the specific service needs of the resident.
- Assist residents in making referrals to appropriate external service providers.
- Provide direct service, including individual and group counseling to residents on an as needed basis.
- Assist in the diffusion of potential crises situations and take appropriate action in resolving crises.
- Facilitate groups and/or workshops as necessary.
- Lead the implementation of the Sanctuary Model of trauma-informed practice within the program.
- Encourage and advance the use of the Sanctuary Model tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences (or similar), and self-care in the program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
- Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
- Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.
- Utilize Sanctuary Model principals in the supervisory practice.
Qualifications for Successful Social Work Supervisors:
- Master’s in Social Work Required
- LMSW License Preferred. (Candidates schedule for exam highly encouraged to apply)
- Two years of successful experience providing services to at-risk youth (including LGBTQ) in areas of assessments, individual and group counseling and development and implementation of ISPs.
- Must have a clear understanding of the needs of young adults experiencing homelessness and a sensitivity to ethnic and cultural differences, and an understanding of the needs of the LGBTQ community.
- History of successful collaboration with other community based agencies and organizations to enhance services for vulnerable youth.
- Excellent crisis intervention, advocacy and problem solving skills.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to maintain required documentation.
- Must be able to use public transportation systems, including subways and busses to attend various meetings.
- Must be physically able to observe staff in their relationship with residents.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
