Job Overview
It is assigned a caseload serving individuals with developmental disabilities as well as the day-to-day supervision of assigned staff. This position is a member of the management team and may need to assume additional management responsibilities in the absence of management staff.
- Approving casework for non-independent counselors to ensure adherence to policy and deadlines
- Coaching and teaching staff as needed, training new staff, liaison to the local CRPs, covering vacant caseloads as needed
- Establishing relationships with community resources and partners, participating in community events, and representing VR on community committees
- Approving time, completing mid cycle and end of the year VIPS for assigned staff.
- Monitoring OMS and 60/90-day deadlines

- In-depth knowledge of casework methodology and techniques of rehabilitation counseling
- Knowledge of federal and state laws governing the delivery of rehabilitation services
- Demonstrated knowledge of the community job market and job placement opportunities
- Proven ability to analyze medical and psychological data for planning and delivery of rehabilitation services
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, family members, and various professional and specialty service providers involved in the rehabilitation process
Management prefers candidates with the following:
- Experience in casework management and supervision is preferred
- Knowledge of casework policy and requirements
Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor and successful completion of the agency requirements for independent counselor status;
or
Current certification of as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC), two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor and successful completion of the agency s requirements for independent counselor status;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
