Work is conducted at Harmony House Child Advocacy Center locations.
Reports to:
Chief Executive Officer & Director of Clinical Services
Time Commitment:
The position is ongoing and requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Occasional weekend and or evening hours may be assigned as needed; schedule may be adjusted to reflect after-hours needs.
Purpose:
The therapist will perform trauma-focused mental health services with children who have disclosed physical and/or sexual abuse, their non-offending caregivers and siblings (secondary survivors), and adults who have disclosed sexual assault. They will provide evidence based, trauma-informed mental health services to both the survivors and their families. The therapist must engage the non-offending caregivers in therapy to promote healing and safety within the entire family.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Therapist will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties or assignments:
- Trauma-informed mental health services: Therapist is to utilize trauma-informed, evidence-based clinical interventions to promote healing and safety of the child.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews
- Respond to subpoenas and testify
- Be able to provide expert testimony for the Northern Judicial Circuit for criminal and civil courts that pertain to Harmony House cases.
- Assist in making appropriate referrals
- Enter data into the case tracking system
- Therapist is to develop an expertise in the highly specialized field of child abuse, with an emphasis on child sexual abuse. This type of abuse requires that the Therapist regularly seek to improve their skills, have a deep understanding of the research associated with child abuse, and be committed to ongoing professional development as it relates to complex trauma and abuse.
- Participate in ongoing training opportunities
- Work flexibly with other CAC staff, assist in facility and grounds upkeep
- Assist the Board of Directors in planning and holding fundraisers
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as requested
Qualifications:
Eligible candidates for the position will have the following characteristics and abilities:
Minimum:
- Adults over 21 years of age
- Have earned a Master’s degree and maintained licensure (or is license eligible) in Mental Health Counseling. (LPC, LC/MSW or other related fields).
- Pass a criminal history record check; holding a valid driver’s license, insurable and able to drive for occasional work-related trips.
- Able to engage and interact with diverse age/background of individuals.
Preferred:
- At least one year experience in family/victim advocacy.
- Experience with the prevention, investigation, and treatment of child abuse or related civil and criminal processes.
- An understanding of the child protection and legal systems (both civil and
criminal) including custody issues and the prosecution of child abuse.
- Experience as the lead in initiating and organizing a new program.
- Solid computer skills for working with Microsoft Office and with database entry.
- Able to produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Readily work cooperatively with other Harmony House Child Advocacy Center employees, volunteers and the general public. Able to work well with diverse populations.
