Job Overview

Position SummaryTo provide advanced level direct treatment, supervision & care; and group treatment and other aspects of care to patients with psychiatric or developmental disorders who are in need of a high level of treatment and supervision due to their emotional and behavioral difficulties; to ensure the safety and well-being of these patients; to support the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu that is safe and provides quality care and a nurturing environment to patients; to provide guidance & positive reinforcement to patients for desired behavior changes; to follow all facility policies & procedures; to follow the established daily schedule of activities & level system or other plans for each patient without deviation; to avoid power struggles with patients to promote an environment that is conducive to the patient being able to achieve maximum therapeutic benefit of the program; to assist in recreational and other treatment interventions such as group therapy; to serve as a positive role model to patients & other staff; completes required documentation completely & timely including daily reports and incident reports; communicates incidents and patient or staff concerns immediately to the Supervisor or appropriate Dept. Manager following the chain of command; follows all state and federal regulatory requirements for the safety of patients, implementation of seclusion & restraint & JOINT accreditation requirements. Provides positive customer service to patients & their families & referral sources always; represents the organization in a professional and respectful manner when off duty and in the community; demonstrate ability to maintain control of the milieu at all times or seek assistance if needed. Must be professional in communication & actions with or toward other employees at all levels in the facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred with at least one (1) year of experience working with the population served. A High School Diploma/GED with and a minimum of two (2) years working with population served required.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years working with psychiatric, emotional, or behaviorally disturbed patients is preferred or CNA with two (2 years working with psychiatric, emotional, or behaviorally disturbed patients.

Competency: Position and Age-Related

Licensure/Certification: CPR and CPI certifications required.

HIPAA: Has access to secure patient/patient documentation ensuring confidentiality is met

Work Demands/Environment: Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situation such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and can perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less that 40 db loss @Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discrimination in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Individual must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to life, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities. While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside. Worker must have the ability to stand for at least 8 hours in order to adequately supervise patients.
