Job Overview
- Monitors all patients and provides direct care to patients on an Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. Keeps patients safe by completing routine checks, monitoring the environment for potentially unsafe objects, and recognizes and reports any changes to the patient’s mood, affect or condition to the nurse.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and transferring of patients, obtains and documents vital signs & weight accurately and reports abnormal results to the Nurse; documents appropriately on the electronic medical record.
- Assists patients with feeding, personal care including bath and linen change as necessary. Monitors and appropriately intervenes in promoting patient’s good personal hygiene and room care. Provides support and assist patients with ADLs.
- Utilizes established aggression control techniques to intervene with patients in crisis in a safe manner. Assists in facilitating and processing with patients on the unit after a crisis.
- Demonstrates the knowledge of and actively maintains the legal rights of the patient. Supervises family visitation and responds appropriately to family concerns. Orients new patients to the unit and to the program rules and schedules.
- Thoroughly searches patient belongings, documents accurate inventory and removes contraband. Demonstrates knowledge of program protocols and behavior management in carrying out suicide precautions, use of restraints, elopement precautions, unit restriction, detox protocol and general patient rounds.
- Assists in developing and leading milieu groups and activities. Works directly with other staff to provide patient and staff safety. Monitors all patients for any changes in mood, affect and/or physical conditions and reports this to the nurse.
Experience

- Experience working with patients in a mental health care setting.

Required
- High School or better
Licenses & Certifications
