Looking to make a difference is people’s lives? Healthy Families Manatee is an in home parenting program for parents with young children. Many of these families have past trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, or mental health issues. The majority of families in this program would not normally have the means to access mental health services. By providing in-home counseling along with our parenting support program, we are able to break generational cycles of trauma, parenting, and so much more. This will be the most rewarding experience in your professional life!! Position Summary/Objective: To provide in-home counseling to Healthy Families participants who have mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and/or past trauma. This position will support the Healthy Families mission to promote positive parent-child relationships; and the agency mission and work toward eliminating poverty in the community. Essential Functions:(Duties and Responsibilities)
- Provide in-home assessment and counseling services to Healthy Families Manatee participants
- Conduct psycho-social assessments to determine strengths, extent of the problems, the families’ readiness to engage in treatment and barriers to intervention.
- Provide families with referrals for additional services as needed.
- Follow-up with service providers on these specialized services
- Develop and update treatment plans with input from families, Family Support and Engagement Specialists (FSES), and supervisors to address concerns identified at the initial assessment or during services
- Work with the family in partnership with the FSES and accompany the FSES on home visits, as appropriate
- Meet monthly with FSES and their supervisor to provide update on participant and input from FSES
- Conduct training for staff and/or families, as appropriate
- Complete forms and paperwork in a timely and comprehensive manner as required
- Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or other similar degree from an accredited college or university
- Licensed in the state of Florida in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC), Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), or Social Work (LCSW)
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing individual and/or family therapy to those affected by not just mental health issues, but also substance abuse, domestic violence and past trauma
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
- Must have demonstrated skills working in a Microsoft windows environment
- Must be sensitive to the needs of the low-income community, demonstrate culturally competent skills, including an understanding of the impact of poverty on families.
- Must be highly organized, accountable, and able to work independently.
- Must be able to establish rapport with staff and families and empower them by building on their strengths.
- Must be able to work in a collaborative, creative, problem solving environment with major emphasis on program outcomes and family support.
Licenses/Certificates/Screenings:
- Licensed in the state of Florida in Social Work (LCSW), Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) or Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT)
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Must have reliable transportation for work related travel, including nights and out of town.
- Must be insurable under SUS’s organizational policies.
- Pre-employment drug screening required.
- Must pass a Level II criminal background check.
- Must agree to ongoing random drug/alcohol screening.
Work environment:
- Work site will include a variety of settings based including a normal office setting, client home settings, and other settings as needed to perform work responsibilities.
Expected hours of work:
- Hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Employee may be called upon outside these hours to complete home visits or attend other functions of the position or agency as needed, including evenings and Saturday.
Travel:
- Local travel to client homes and other agency meetings/trainings. Healthy Families trainings, conferences and other meetings may be outside the local area and overnight.
