DSHS DDA Community Transition Behavior Specialist

The Department of Social Health Services Development Disability Administration is seeking a behavior management expert to join our team as the Community Transition Behavior Specialist.

Working as part of the Community Transition unit is an exciting opportunity to balance providing subject matter expertise to support clients transitioning into the community as well as influence resources, policies, and processes in a variety of projects that support behavioral programs in Washington State. As the Community Transition Behavior Specialist, you are directly responsible for working with institutions and community providers and your work is critical in developing behavior plans that keep a person and the community safe.

Your ability to communicate and collaborate with many different internal and external stakeholders to advocate and provide direction regarding community transition for clients will be critical to your success. At a statewide level, this is a rewarding role to experience variety, continuously learn and build on the current foundation of transition initiatives and activities with DDA.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Provide behavioral health expertise to clients, families, and providers in developing plans and evaluating living situations to support successful community integration.
  • Identify needs, available resources, and gaps in services available to assist individuals in managing and mitigating behaviors.
  • Develop statewide guidelines and policies/practices to provide support to family, staff, and services providers.
  • Provide consultation, training, tools, and technical assistance to improve the quality of positive behavior support services in community-based settings.
  • Understand and consult on DDA program policies, procedures, WAC, and other regulations related to community integration.
  • Represent DDA and act as a unity community integration subject matter expert in agency meetings.
  • Provide statewide reliable and professional sound guidance in the development and implementation of behavioral programs for clients.

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of positive behavior support, functional assessment, and positive behavior support plan development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation.
  • A thorough understanding of community and residential care services.
  • Skill as a presence and resource to gain commitment from others to comply with laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with community partners, stakeholders, teams, and staff to advance shared goals.
  • Demonstrate skill in verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrate skill in consulting, facilitating concepts, and influencing decisions.
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and/or being credentialed as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), or Licensed Assistant Behavior Analyst (LABA) is preferred.

Who should a apply:

A professional with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or a closely allied field and a minimum of five years of professional experience working in DDA, long-term care, or behavioral health and recovery services programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.
