We’re looking for Juvenile Rehabilitation Residential Counselors to join our team to provide comprehensive services to youth and young adults, working toward the common goal of eliminating child and youth outcome disparities based on race and ethnicity. The Opportunity:
You can make a real difference in the lives of justice-involved youth and young adults when you join our dedicated team at Green Hill School. We need your motivation and engagement to provide comprehensive case management, transition planning and counseling, and treatment referral services for an assigned caseload of youth and young adults committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the courts. Our objective is to maintain a secure, therapeutic environment that provides youth and young adults the information, skills, and motivation to succeed outside the Institution living productive lives in the community.
Some of what you will do:
- Interview and administer/interpret screening tools and assessments, assess behavior, prioritize treatment targets and develop treatment plans for youth and young adults committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the courts.
- Provide Dialectical Behavioral Treatment (DBT) and Coaching on the Floor interventions to youth and young adults with a complex range of service needs.
- Facilitate DBT Skills groups and activities.
- Analyze a variety of situations and select an appropriate course of action applying sound judgment and professional standards
- Prepare youth and their families for transition back to the community.
- Perform routine security duties throughout the day including the use of verbal and/or physical de-escalation techniques on dis-regulated youth.
- Monitor the movement of residents within the facility and in the community.
What we are looking for:
Professionals who have a Bachelor’s degree AND one year of professional experience working with at-risk or justice system-involved youth and young adults as a case manager, counselor, probation counselor, parole counselor, or experience working in a social service capacity planning directing, supervising, or facilitating interventions with juvenile justice system youth and young adults or related field.
OR
One year of experience as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor Assistant.
OR
A Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or in an allied field will substitute for the one year of experience.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent brain development, positive youth development and evidence-based, effective juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles.
- Experience providing cognitive/behavioral therapeutic interventions.
- Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences related to juvenile delinquency.
- Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively in a professional/objective manner.
