POSITION TITLE: Community-Based Advocate/ Therapist
Victims of Crime Act, HUD
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
The person in this position provides direct services to victims of domestic violence to ensure that their rights are recognized and addressed according to Kentucky’ Crime Victims Bill of Rights (KRS 421.500), and federal mandates according to the within a trauma informed care model. Services include crisis intervention, risk & lethality assessments, safety planning, individual and group therapy, court advocacy and information and referral assistance. The Community-Based Advocate is under the supervision of the Non-Residential Services Manager and Deputy Director.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct initial assessments for victims of domestic violence, which include risk & lethality scale, safety planning, service plan, and implementation.
2. Provide individual therapy for shelter, outreach and housing clients.
3. Provide crisis intervention for traumatized clients.
4. Provide services within a trauma informed care model.
5. Design, implement, and facilitate weekly domestic violence groups
6. Maintain files and provide appropriate documentation on each client.
7. Coordinate services for immigrant, refugee, and undocumented victims of domestic violence
8. Collaborate with the international community at the local, state, and national level to ensure information about services is available
9. Accompany victims to court and/or meetings with law enforcement or other criminal justice agencies
10. Educate victims about the criminal justice system, court procedures, crime victim’s compensation, immigration remedies, and their rights as a crime victim throughout the legal process.
11. Answer 24-hour crisis line and provide telephone counseling and appropriate referrals.
12. Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly statistical information as required by funding sources.
13. Attend all required trainings and staff meetings.
14. Work designated holidays and assigned on-call schedule according to agency policy.
15. Perform all other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field with a counseling emphasis.
- Appropriate state licensure in good standing.
- Knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence, trauma, empowerment, victim-centered services, and the judicial system.
- Commitment to adhere to the Member Program Service Standards of the Kentucky Coalition against Domestic Violence.
- Commitment to complete required training for state Certification as Domestic Violence Advocate.
- Valid Kentucky driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Submit to a criminal background check.
