This position includes a $2500.00 gross signing bonus at hire and $2500.00 gross at the completion of the probationary period.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking an experienced clinician to serve as EDGE (Empowerment through Determination, Growth and Experience) Program Coordinator for the Young Adult Team. The EDGE Program Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the EDGE Program to include, but not limited to, developing curriculum, providing psychoeducational groups throughout the week, outreach and engagement of the young adult population, and incorporating guest presenters to the group, as well as planning and providing community engagement activities. The position will also have a small caseload of direct service clients.

The position is in the Behavioral Healthcare Division of DHS, on the Young Adult Team, which includes clinicians, peer recovery specialist, psychiatrist, and nursing.  The team will provide clinical mental health wrap around services to young adults between the ages of 18 to 30 who have been diagnosed with mental health needs. To learn more about our services, please visit DHS

Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

  • Developing community partners as resources and topics for groups;
  • Engaging other Young Adult team staff to provide support and education regarding group content they may bring to the EDGE program;
  • Conducting assessments to determine level of care needed, providing crisis intervention and facilitating psychiatric admissions;
  • Establishing effective therapeutic relationships with clients;
  • Providing individual consultation and/or family therapy as well as facilitating groups;
  • Linking clients with case management services and/or referring to community resources;
  • Traveling to serve clients in the community;
  • Providing case management and therapy services, as well as coordinating with prescribers; and
  • Completing medical records to ensure compliance with clinical, funding, and program licensing regulations/standards.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, creative, perform as a team player, possess strong documentation skills and be familiar with evidence-based practices, recovery principles, and person-centered care.

Qualifications

Minimum: 

  • A Master’s degree in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychology, or other directly related clinical discipline which required a clinical practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic and treatment services;
  • Licensure by the appropriate board of the Virginia Department of Health Professions, appropriate to the employee’s discipline (e.g. LPC, LCP, LMFT, or LCSW) at time of employment.

Substitution: Directly related higher-level clinical degrees may substitute for the Master’s degree education requirement and one year of experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher-level clinical degree.

 

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Providing case management/therapy services to seriously mentally ill youth in an outpatient setting; and/or
  • Developing and/or providing psychoeducation/therapy groups.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from the applicant’s place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant’s official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent on a favorable review of the applicant’s driving record.

Must complete pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check.

Employment restrictions: To ensure that dual relationships are avoided and that employees who are also clients do not relate to their service provider as co-professionals, employees will not be hired by the County to provide or support services to the team or program in which they are current clients:

  • You cannot concurrently receive behavioral health services from Arlington County Community Service Board (CSB) programs while employed in an Arlington County CSB program (exception Crisis Intervention services).
  • At least 24 months must have passed between receipt of CSB services from Arlington County and employment in an Arlington County CSB program.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Hours:  Monday through Friday 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Some flexibility to serve clients as needed after hours.
