Title: Animal Behaviorist

Position Summary:
Midnight Sun Technologies is looking to hire an Animal Behaviorist
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform regular behavioral assessments of animals including but not limited to rats, ferrets, mice, rabbits and monkeys in order to document behavioral characteristics and responses to interventions in order to optimize their social and physical environments.
- Develop positive reinforcement strategies to enhance animal well-being (all species).
- Assess adequacy and value of enrichment procedures based on data collection and comparison to known performance standards for laboratory animals
- Oversight and standardization of enrichment provision (all species)
- Data collection for welfare assessments or behavior research, production of summary reports, with occasional presentations to the DVS and contract staff.
- Visit all or most animal holding rooms and document assessments from the perspective of a behaviorist weekly.
- Manage (in conjunction with Veterinarians) socializations of non-human primates, rabbits, and other social species.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, psychology or related discipline.
- Prior experience with nonhuman primates and/or many other species of laboratory animals, AALAS certifications, research experience in the study of animal behavior or animal welfare is desired.
