Job Overview
The job of Behavior Specialist is done for the purpose of providing educational interventions, and progress monitoring for students in order to increase student performance and change behavior.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to provide interventions and progress monitoring.
- Maintain records of interventions and progress monitoring to insure process fidelity.
- Attend team/parent meetings as required; provide input to teams regarding student strengths and weaknesses.
- Use identified scientific, research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student difficulties.
- Maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.
- Participate in student screening activities and assist with the analysis of the data to identify students in need.
- Provide data to the school teams and participate in decisions about student progress.
- Utilize tracking system to maintain lists of students participating in interventions.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the principal.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Master’s degree preferred
- Arizona teacher certification aligned to grade levels where assigned
- Minimum five years successful teaching experience
- Special Education and/or RtI experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
